Aric Allen has received a Senatorial Nomination to the United Stated Naval Academy (USNA) for the Class of 2013 from Alabama's United States Senator, the Honorable Jeff Sessions. Allen's notification of the primary Nomination to the USNA came in the form of a personally signed congratulatory letter this February. In December, Allen had previously received a competitive nomination from the now retired Alabama Congressman, the Honorable Terry Everett, prior to the Congressman's departure from office. Allen attended a summer seminar at the USNA in June of 2008 where he lived the life of an Academy plebe (Freshman) for ten days participating in strenuous land and water physical training and attended familiarization labs for: aerodynamics in the USNA's wind tunnel, foreign languages, physics, and a surface warfare ship leader reaction simulator among numerous other academic disciplines. If selected to the Class of 2013, Allen will receive the equivalent of a $375,000 scholarship to the Nation's fifth ranked engineering program. Each year over 12,000 applicants apply to the USNA and only 1200 Plebes are accepted. Allen will seek a degree in Aerospace Engineering striving to become a Naval Aviator. His backup plans are to attend a Naval Reserve Officer Training Program at the University of Florida or Auburn University seeking an active duty commission as an Ensign. Allen will compete for the Naval Aviation Program at any of the three aforementioned commissioning source institutions. The final decision by the Academy and a possible offer of an Appointment will come in April of this year and will represent the culmination of over 14 months worth of arduous application processes, which include the input of numerous past and present Ashford Academy faculty members as well as Mrs. Baggett. UPDATE: ARIC ALLEN HAS RECEIVED HIS ACCEPTANCE LETTER FROM THE NAVAL ACADEMY AND WILL BE SWORN IN AT THE FIRST OF JULY. CONGRATULATIONS, ARIC! Note: The Dothan Eagle ran a feature story on Aric on April 2.
