ABOUT ASHFORD ACADEMY ATHLETICS

Ashford Academy participates in the AISA Athletic Program. Our Athletic Department offers Pee Wee cheerleading and football; Junior Varsity cheerleading, football, and basketball; and Varsity cheerleading, football, basketball, baseball, softball, volleyball and golf. Additional sports could be added as needed.

INITIAL ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to participate in any AISA interscholastic event the first term of school, the student/athlete must have completed five full units of credit the previous school year. To maintain eligibility or become eligible for participation in any second semester sports event, the student/athlete must complete two full units of credit the first semester of that same school year.

GRADE REQUIREMENTS

Believing that it is of the utmost importance to maintain a healthy academic/athletic balance, Ashford Academy requires its students/athletes/cheerleaders to maintain an OVERALL ACADEMIC AVERAGE OF "C" (70) during the academic progress of each nine weeks grading period. If the student/athlete/cheerleader does not meet the grade requirements, a probationary period of three weeks will be imposed. During such time the student/athlete/cheerleader will be allowed to continue participation. At the end of the probationary period, if the student/athlete/cheerleader has not pulled his/her grade up to the satisfactory level, the student/athlete/cheerleader will be considered ineligible to participate in any sports event until his/her grades are brought up to standard.

ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT GUIDELINES

  • Rules, regulations, and respect for authority are a part of any society. It is the policy of AA to support those rules and regulations prescribed by the individual coach which are in harmony with the school and AISA.
  • AISA rules and regulations must be followed in all cases of eligibility, transfer, starting dates, and all other policies outlined in the AISA Athletic Handbook. Each coach has the responsibility to know, to inform team members and parents, and to enforce school and AISA regulations in these matters.
  • Display of unsportsmanlike conduct toward an opponent or official, or use of profanity during practice or a contest is unacceptable and can result in suspension from that game or future games. If the school is fined $500 because of poor sportsmanship, as outlined in the AISA Sportsmanship Statement, the individual that caused the fine will be responsible for paying the fine.
  • Any student who loses or destroys equipment through carelessness is responsible for its replacement.

  • A student must be in school by 11:30 am to practice or participate in an activity.
  • All athletes are expected to be at school in homeroom the following morning after every road trip.
  • Every student who participates in athletics is required to have on file with the Athletic Director and school office, a completed physical form by a physician that the athlete has been examined and is physically approved to participate for that school year.
  • Athletes will not be permitted to try out or practice before obtaining a physical examination.
  • Athletes are not permitted to wear any jewelry, including earrings, and male athletes must be clean shaven.
  • Athletes who start a sport are making a commitment to their team, coaches, and school. Any student, male or female, that defaults on their commitment which results in a forfeiture and fine for the school, will be responsible for paying that fine. Any student, male or female, who quits a sport may not play any other sport for that school year.
